The project
This logistics SME based at Contern business park wanted to make use of the 800 m² flat roof on its warehouse and gradually electrify its fleet of 6 utility vehicles.
The challenge
The flat roof required a ballasted mounting system with no penetrations to preserve waterproofing. The existing grid connection had to support production, business operations and vehicle charging simultaneously.
Our solution
- Solar panels — 120 Jinko Solar Tiger Neo 580W modules (69.6 kWp) on K2 Systems ballasted structures, 15° east-west tilt
- Inverters — 2 × SMA Sunny Tripower CORE2 (33 kW each) for optimal production management
- Charging stations — 6 Alfen Eve Single Pro-line (22 kW) with smart charge management via Alfen SCN
- Monitoring — SMA Sunny Portal dashboard for real-time production and consumption tracking
The east-west configuration maximises production during working hours (8am–6pm) rather than the solar peak at noon.
Results
- Estimated annual production: 62,000 kWh
- Direct self-consumption: 72% (building consumption + fleet charging)
- Annual savings: ~€14,500 on energy costs
- Fleet charging: 6 utility vehicles charged daily at 100% solar in summer
- Return on investment: estimated at 5.5 years
- CO₂ reduction: 28 tonnes per year avoided
